One of the most common man made materials in the world is Plastic. It is a versatile product used in everything from furniture and toys to car seats and water bottles. But what is Plastic?

DescriptionPlastics are an array of synthetic or semi-natural materials which make use of polymers as the main component. Their plasticity allows plastics to be extruded, molded or press into different shapes. Most plastics are non-biodegradable and most countries have some form of recycling program in place. However, there is still a great deal of garbage plastic that is not recycled and forms a major part of our landfill sites.

Reasons plastics can end up in the landfill vary, however one of the biggest factors is our dependence on manufactured plastic products. Every product needs to be made from somewhere so ideally they will end up as something useful. However, if the product is a ‘use by’ product then it needs to be melted and refined so that it can be put into something useful again. This means that we have a huge need for plastics in the production process and once melted and refined, it has to be put into a usable container. We do have options for recycling where plastics can be recycled byproducts, but it is difficult to do this with all plastics gia thung nhua dung nuoc.

Recycling programs and the laws that apply to it are very strict in most countries. This means that it is often not worthwhile if you are thinking about taking action to recycle. There are some exceptions to these laws where certain plastics such as those that make up eyewear can be recycled. The main issues with plastic recycling programs are the cost and time involved in collecting it. These two factors mean that a lot of the Plastic that does end up in the recycling bin ends up in a landfill.

A better option to using recycled plastics would be to find other ways of using plastics other than making them. Some things such as food packaging can be made from recycled plastics. With all the plastic waste going to landfill it is important that we look at alternatives where possible.

Using something such as hydrogen peroxide to biodegrade plastic is one way of using plastics in a completely different way. This method means that the waste will break down into simpler compounds before being broken down further. These can then be recycled again. It is thought that up to 10 billion inhabit our planet, which means that we have plenty of room to make our future changes to how we deal with plastic waste. Waste management and recycling programs can take some of the pressure off from the rising amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills each year. The focus should be on finding alternatives to the plastic that we currently use, whether it be recycled or new types of plastics we can create.
