The pharmaceuticals that are approved to treat anorexia nervosa include primobolan. Metenolone, sold commercially under the name Primobolan, is a synthetic anabolic androgen and a corticosteroid drug that is used primarily in the treatment of anorexia due to inadequate growth hormone production. It is usually injected directly into the muscle to reduce excess tissue mass. Like other anabolic steroids, it enhances protein synthesis, stimulates the production of energy by the liver and inhibits breakdown of muscle protein. It also reduces muscle soreness, improves flexibility primobolan and reduces edema (fatty build-up). It is administered intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously and sublingually.
A number of complications can occur with the use of primobolan. Primobolan can cause nitrogen retention, water retention, fluid retention and electrolyte disturbances. Also, because of the increased amount of androgen receptors (dopamine 5-HT and aromatase) in the adrenal cortex, it can stimulate cortisol secretion. However, studies have shown that despite these side effects, there is little evidence of its ability to promote lean muscle mass, support muscle growth or improve metabolic efficiency.
An analysis of the blood of competitive athletes found that the mean concentration of testosterone was higher after ingesting primobolan than after testing nonsport athletes. This was attributed to the ability of the steroid to reduce the amount of cortisol that would normally be present in the athlete’s bloodstream. Because of this study, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of this hormone for use by athletes in competitive events, even if they test positive for testosterone. Also, the FDA has not established any ill effects from its use as compared to performance-enhancing drugs administered by prescription only.
Anabolic steroids, such as primobolan, are still under review by the FDA. A Schedule II controlled substance, anabolic steroids are proven to cause severe and irreversible liver damage in users who abuse them. Because of this, anabolic steroids are strictly prohibited, and those who possess them face severe penalties. Despite this severe risk, there have been cases where athletes use anabolic steroids, which are legal, to enhance performance. Anabolic steroids can lead to life-threatening problems.
Due to the similarity between the effects of primobolan and anabolic steroids, many athletes use this muscle relaxant instead of other medications for treating pain associated with arthritis. An example of a competitor using this medication is Michigan State University’s football team. According to the university, players were prescribed oral prednisone to treat arthritis pain. However, because the body quickly builds resistance to anabolic steroids, players began finding success with injectable enanthate ester injections, which are composed of steroidal and methenolone compounds.
Injectable enanthate esters contain a steroid compound that mimics the effects of the naturally occurring androgen steroid methenolone. Like anabolic steroids, the compound causes dramatic increase in size in the muscles of users and promotes increased strength. The injectable version is considered less harmful to the body than the substance found in primobolan, which means it may be used legally among athletes.
